The origin in 1947

The first tire sandals were created during the resistance against the French (1947), inspired by an idea from a high-ranking officer in the military. They were made by cutting up a military vehicle tire that had been shot down, transforming it into a pair of sandals.

With their durability and ability to traverse any terrain and weather conditions, tire sandals were mass-produced to supply the entire military. They played a significant role in the victory of national liberation.

President Ho Chi Minh also had a special fondness for these sandals during his lifetime. He wore them for over 20 years, from 1947 until his passing.

PHẠM QUANG XUÂN – ARTIS 1968

After the war, tire sandals fell out of favor in modern life, and many sandal production workshops dissolved. These sandals are now only displayed in museum cabinets.

However, there is still one artisan who has been making tire sandals for over 50 years. He continues this tradition because he considers it a heritage craft passed down from his father, and these tire sandals hold great significance in our nation’s history.

VUA DÉP LỐP BRAND - 2001

In 2013, Nguyễn Tiến Cường, the son-in-law of artisan PHẠM QUANG XUÂN, took over (as the third generation) and established the brand VUA DÉP LỐP.

With the advantage of youth, Nguyễn Tiến Cường continuously innovated, explored new materials, and combined them with the secrets of traditional handmade sandal craftsmanship. Tire sandals became not only incredibly durable but also highly fashionable.

These sandals are popular in over 60 countries and have become an iconic product representing Vietnam.

Nguyen Tien Cuong, the son-in-law of the renowned artist PHAM QUANG XUAN, has taken over and established the VUA DÉP LỐP brand, continuing the legacy of tire sandals. With an unwavering passion, he aims to introduce tire sandals made from car tires and even those crafted from Boeing 747 airplane tires to the global market. However, due to technological limitations and payment methods, this vision remains unrealized. He has collaborated with deplop.com to showcase these unique tire products crafted by skilled artisans, using English as the medium of communication . These tire sandals are not only incredibly durable but also carry the symbolic essence of Vietnam, and Nguyen Tien Cuong’s entrepreneurial spirit continues to shine through each distinctive pair of tire sandals.
